General Queries

Do I need an attorney?

This will largely depend on the facts of your case. At a minimum, you will benefit from consulting a lawyer about your particular situation. The law firm of Ray Hassanlou offers free initial consultations. We can provide you with our opinion regarding your potential case and whether we are the right firm for you. If we cannot help you, we may be able to refer you to another lawyer or resource more suited to your situation.

How do lawyers at your firm get paid?

Our firm represents injured clients on a contingency fee basis. This means that we will only be paid a percentage of the amount we recover for you, plus any costs and expenses that are necessary to resolve your case. Our goal is to handle the case so that you can use your money to take care of yourself and your family while we pursue your claim. The initial consultation with a lawyer is free of charge.

If I contact your law firm, will I meet with a lawyer?

Your first contact, probably a phone call, may be with a paralegal or staff, but when you schedule a meeting, a lawyer will ALWAYS meet with you.

What is the value of my case?

This is one of the most common questions asked by potential clients. Each case is different, and the answer depends on a number of factors. Civil cases compensate the injured person for damages they have suffered. The compensation you receive will depend on many factors, including the extent of your damages, the nature of your injuries, whether or not your injuries are permanent or disfiguring, the amount of your medical bills, the amount of your lost wages, the pain and suffering caused by your injuries, and many other variables, including how much insurance coverage the defendant has available to pay a claim.

What happens if I lose my case, i.e., who pays for the expenses?

Responsibility for the costs advanced by your attorney will depend on the particular fee agreement that you have with your attorney. If our firm represents you, in most cases the firm will advance costs necessary to develop and litigate your case. If your case is not successful, you will not be responsible for any of the costs advanced by our law firm.

Will a lawyer from your firm visit me if I am unable to travel?

If your injuries prevent you from coming to our offices, a lawyer from our firm will schedule a time to meet you at a convenient location, whether that is your home, a hospital, or some other location of your chosing.

The insurance adjuster for the insurance company wants to settle with me and says that I do not need a lawyer. What should I do?
The adjuster works for the insurance company. Insurance companies exist for one reason – to make money. The adjuster is charged with saving his company’s money; therefore his or her goal is to resolve your claim for the lowest amount possible. At our law firm, we believe that you should always consult with an attorney before settling your claim.
Do I have a good case?
This frequently asked question is difficult to answer without an interview. A “good case” requires the injured person to establish that someone else was at fault, and that such fault was the cause of injury. The determination of “fault” can be complex and requires a thorough legal analysis. For a free consultation, please contact the law firm.
What type of investigation is required?
The extent of investigation depends on the specific facts of each case. All cases require prompt and thorough investigation. Medical malpractice and product liability cases require review by experts in the particular field of expertise involved.
What is the Statute of Limitations?
The Statute of Limitations is the body of law placing time limits on filing a lawsuit. Different types of cases have different time limits. Failing to file suit within those time limits prevents the injured person from filing suit at all.
Will discussions with an insurance company or potential defendants toll the statute of limitations in my case? Can I satisfy the statute of limitations by sending correspondence to an insurance company or potential defendants?
No. The statute of limitations is only satisfied by the filing of a lawsuit. Discussions and/or correspondence with an insurance company or potential defendants will not satisfy the statute of limitations in your case.
How much does an attorney evaluation cost in personal injury cases?
Nothing! Our firm will evaluate your case free of charge.
Do you handle cases other than car accidents and personal injury?

Yes, at our law firm we also handle divorce and family law cases.

I was injured in a car accident. Will you help me with my property damage claim?
